MADISON - The Plan Commission on Monday voted in favor of a change to the city's waterfront setback law, which could help propel the proposed Edgewater Hotel redevelopment.
The proposed change, approved on a 5-4 vote with chairwoman Nancy Fey casting the tie-breaker, would require nonresidential lakefront property owners to build no closer to a lake than existing buildings. Currently, such projects require a variance to avoid having to move entire buildings farther from the lake, said City Council President Pro Tem Mark Clear.
If approved by the City Council, the change would affect about 10 properties in the city, including The Edgewater, Clear said.
The Plan Commission referred three other proposals related to The Edgewater to its Feb. 22 meeting at around 11:40 p.m.
